Mavericks Battle for DII College World Series Title

Mike Eckhart batting for the MavericksThree consecutive wins at the NCAA Division II College World Series have kept  the Minnesota State Mankato Mavericks alive in the hunt for a national championship. The Mavericks play again today—June 1—at 10 a.m CST; if Coach Matt Magers’ squad pulls out another win against the Delta State Statesmen, the team will advance to the national championship game on Saturday, June 2, against either West Chester or Catawba.

Pitcher Ockuly playing for the MavericksThe Mavericks have won 51 games this season, including their three victories so far in the DII College World Series. The team earned the right to play in the 2012 NCAA DII World Series by winning the 2012 NCAA Division II Baseball Central Regional Tournament in Mankato in May. The NCAA Division II Baseball World Series, which is being held at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C.,  is an eight-team double elimination championship that determines the top team of the 2012 baseball season.

This is the sixth world-series appearance for the Mavericks—and their second appearance in the last three years.
